Monday
The celebrations begin on Monday 29th September at 6.30pm with a vibrant dance and music performance by the Edinburgh Bhangra Crew and a Qawwali group, led by the renowned singer Farooq Khan, in George Square Theatre. Tickets to be bought at: http://tinyurl.com/EUSASAQawwali.
Tuesday
On Tuesday there will be student-led Open Mike event, featuring the musical and poetic talents of Edinburgh students. To be held at 56 North from 8:30pm onwards. THIS IS A FREE EVENT. All are welcome!
Wednesday
Wednesday, October 1st will see Lord Meghnad Desai MP, recipient of the Padma Bhushan, the third highest civilian award in the Republic of India, deliver a lecture entitled ‘India in South Asia: the unfinished agenda’ in the Business School Auditorium at 6:15pm, followed by a drinks reception. Thursday
India Day - Gandhi Jayanti
Mahatma Gandhi’s grandson Dr Gopalkrishna Gandhi will deliver the inaugural India Day lecture ‘India Yesterday, India Today’ on 2nd October, Mahatma Gandhi’s birthday. Dr Gandhi is a distinguished scholar and statesman in his own right, having held senior posts including High Commissioner of India to South Africa; Director of Nehru Centre, London, and Governor of West Bengal. From 2-4pm at McEwann Hall.
Edinburgh’s annual Namaste party will be held on Thursday 2nd October in the Playfair Library, providing an opportunity for new students from India and South Asia to meet fellow students and staff.

A Bollywood night takes place on Friday 3rd October in screening room G.04 50 George Square led by Piyush Roy.
Saturday
The week’s celebrations conclude with the Muslim festival, Bakri-Eid, with a grand dinner on Saturday 4th October. To be held at Hot Flame Edinburgh, 2 Lister Square in Quartermile. From 8:30pm onwards. The usual 16 pound world buffet is being offered at a grand price of 10 pounds for non-members and 9 pounds for members.
Throughout the week Edinburgh will showcase a selection of photos from one of Scotland's leading multicultural documentary and travel photographers, Hermann Rodrigues. His ‘Broon Scots’ photo exhibition celebrates the integration of Asian ethnic groups who have migrated to Scotland. The University library’s Centre for Research Collections will also display some of their rare manuscripts from the Indian subcontinent.
Events are organised by the Centre for South Asian Studies, The India Institute, the South Asian Students Association, PakSoc and the International Office.
